Your Giving

Partner with us and partner with God in seeing His Kingdom come and His will be done on earth, in Oakland, as it is in heaven. We are on mission to see all of Oakland know Jesus and to see Oakland known for Jesus.  Your giving is what fuels the mission.

Starting Point: In God We Trust, Not Money

God isn’t trying to get something from you; He is trying to get something in you.  When you give, you are actively participating in worship.  You know, Jesus declared that the first and greatest commandment is to love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind (Matthew 22:37 & 38).  Jesus also said that wherever your treasure is, there your heart will be also (Matthew 6:21).  So we can see in scripture that giving puts our heart in the right place to worship the Lord and frees us from the love & worship of money.

Our Position on Giving

In Malachi 3:10 God instructs us to bring the whole tithe into the storehouse.  He even goes as far as saying “Test me in this” and “see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.”  God wants to open the floodgates of His blessing in your life.  He isn’t looking to take from you but in fact He is doing the opposite.  Proverbs 11:24 & 25 says “Give freely and become more wealthy; be stingy and lose everything.  The generous will prosper; those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed.”  Paul expresses that giving is an act of worship toward God in Philippians 4:18 where he says “At the moment I have all I need – and more!  I am generously supplied with the gifts you sent me with Epaphroditus.  They are a sweet-smelling sacrifice that is acceptable and pleasing to God.”

In Psalm 50:11 God declares “I own the cattle on a thousand hills.”  And in Philippians 4:19 Paul declares “And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.”  We believe that our God is abundant and inexhaustible.  We do not give out of guilt or fear, but out of thankfulness and faith, believing that, as it says in Ephesians 3:20, “God, who is able, through His mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think.”

Jeremiah 29:7 says that we are to “work for the peace and prosperity of the city where I sent you… for its welfare will determine your welfare”.  We have been called and sent to the city of Oakland.  We want to be agents of peace and prosperity for our city.  We take responsibility for our city’s welfare.  This means we invest not just our time and talents into our city but also our finances.  On the other side of our generosity is a need met and a life changed, and that is how we will see all of Oakland know Jesus and Oakland know for Him, one life changed at a time.

Generosity is not a budget line for us.  It’s a posture.  It’s a tangible way we say to Oakland “We see you.  We’re for you.  You are not invisible to God or this House.”  We are always asking: What’s the next way we can show up?  Who’s the next family?  Where is the next neighborhood?  What’s the next moment where TFH can be the hands and feet of Jesus in Oakland?  And the answer to every one of those questions… is you.  Your giving is what makes it all possible.  We want everyone to experience both sides of generosity and the reality of the Bible when it says in Luke 6:38, “Give, and it will be given to you.  A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap.  For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”
